National #BLM Protest in Washington, DC

There’s a quote that I’ve seen circulating around the internet for a few years now. It essentially says “if you ever wonder what you would have done during slavery, the holocaust, civil rights movement, etc…you’re doing it now.” In the wake of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and a host of other events we’ve become woefully familiar with over the past few months, one can’t help but be confronted, yet again, by this harsh reality.

As protests erupted across the country, I made the decision to go out and stand with the thousands of other people who were fed up and wanted to make our voices heard. Despite being mindfully aware that Covid-19 was still a threat, I masked up and made my way down to Black Lives Matter Plaza. As a photographer, I feel one of the greatest contributions I can make to society is documenting what’s happening in the world. It’s a blessing to be able to lend my perspective to telling the story of what’s happening – a story that will long outlast me or my loved ones.

I was able to capture lots of great images and videos of protestors and our surroundings. Some have gone on to become some of my favorite images that I’ve taken. You can check some of them out below. I look forward to creating something with them. I’ll be sure to keep you updated. In the meantime…

Enjoy,

Sequoia

When I first moved to the DMV it seems like it took me forever to make any lasting friendships which, as a military brat who is used to moving around, I found strange. Enter Natasha. We met on Bumble Friends, of all places. While I’ve always found online dating weird….online “finding friends” tops that…Still, Natasha […]
